Artist Statement

There are currently two styles: kinetic art & a serene white style

Common features
A mix of materials, new combinations, a conceptual foundation, recognising patterns and breaking away from them. Seeking stillness, essence and simplicity. Often making use of contrasts. With the occasional figurative touch and a hint of dry humour.

The foundation of the artworks lies in universal basic emotions that everyone recognises, but which we do not always like to talk about. Sometimes the artworks also possess a social commitment, for example a degree of climate criticism. There is always the search for the essence and the purest expression of what needs to be said.

White style
This is serene: stillness and tranquillity are contrasted with raw pain or a literal sense of being trapped. Often making use of soothing repetitions and structures.

Kinetic art
Anno Max creates four-dimensional art. The artworks are spatial and gain an extra temporal dimension through movement. This movement is generated using Arduino and electronics. This programmable microprocessor controls small motors that move parts of the artwork. Sometimes also using a proximity sensor or a small water pump.

Perspective
Anno Max Marum has previously also conducted research into a 4-point perspective: following partly self-devised (perspective) rules for the two-dimensional flat surface. At the same time, letting go of those rules at will, or in the service of the right composition, areas of colour and interplay of lines. This occurs initially at the level of drawing, but also represents the same underlying principles on an existential level.

Anno Max Marum is an Art Philosopher (Radboud University of Nijmegen) and studied at ArtEZ, University of the Arts in Arnhem and the Haarlem Academy of Fine Art.
